  • Can You Say Septuagesima?

This Sunday begins Pre-Lent. As we prepare for Lent:

    • We “bury the ‘Alleluia.’” The word is not used in the music or liturgy.

    • We do not sing “The Gloria.”

    • We replace the “Te Deum” with the “Benedictus Es, Domine” in Morning Prayer

    • Starting this year, we will use the Decalogue (10 Commandments) all three Sundays until Lent.

  • Pastoral Counsel: The Monthly Psalter

“Anglicans pray the entire Book of Psalms 12 times a year!” Do we? What about February?

The monthly Psalter is divided up into 30 Days (half during Morning Prayer, half during Evening Prayer). The tradition is to repeat Day 30 on the 31st day in months that have one.

Here’s and idea for February: when February has only 28 days, pray the Psalms for Day 29 on either January or March 31st (we need not concern ourselves with a “Feb. 30” reading because Day 30 is repeated on the rest of the months with 31 days)—then we’ll truly pray the entire Psalter 12 times a year.

    Theology of Sacraments?

Not a theology of the sacraments. They are mysteries to participate in, not puzzles to solve.
